The earth continually changes. Volcanoes erupt, islands sink and new mountains form.

Yesterday, a massive landslip destroyed a section of the South West Coast Path in Dorset, south west UK.

Portland Coastguard said the cliff fall happened overnight at St Oswald's Bay, east of Durdle Door. The substantial landslip, which happened overnight without warning, took out part of the cliff.

The path has been sealed off by council workers. People have been advised to keep clear of the affected area until it is re-routed later. The cliffs along the Dorset coast have been in a fragile state due to wet weather over the past 12 months, followed by recent dry conditions.

Visitors were advised to exercise awareness of their surroundings and pay attention to warning signs when walking near the cliffs. However the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Twitter account later posted a photograph of people still walking along the path, with the caption: "What do you think they are doing on the edge of a collapsed cliff? There's a reason we give advice."

The Jurassic Coast manager said 20m (65ft) of the coast path had fallen away. This beautiful area gained popularity during the recent television program Broadchurch.

With very little warning for hikers, it's lucky this didn't happen during a busy weekend.

Oh my goodness that's awful! Dorset is such a beautiful part of England, I have spent many a summer holiday there. It's lucky that no-one was hurt!

Not many people walk at night. hehe. Mother Earth was kind.

Why are people so silly as to ignore advice about their safety? The next time they may not be so lucky!
